Un día de campo a la vuelta de la esquina - A day in the country-side just around the corner

La estancia Santa Rita se encuentra a poco menos de 3 horas de la Capital Federal. Ubicada en la Reserva de biósfera de Punta Indio es un lugar ideal para disfrutar de la paz del campo y aprender un poco más sobre nuestra cultura.
Santa Rita fue durante años la única capilla de la zona y como toda estancia de la época contaba con ciertos lujos, tales como el magnífico alfalfar (depósito para alfalfa) sobre la cabelleriza, que es hoy un magnífico salón multiuso.

The ranch Santa Rita is just 3 hours away from downtown Buenos Aires. It is located within the Biosphere Reserve from Punta Indio and seems to be the ideal place to enjoy the peace of land and learn about Argentinian culture.

Santa Rita has been the only chapel in the area for many years and as all the ranchs that time used to display some excentricities, like this beautiful corn depot, above the stables, which is today a wonderful place to have conferences and even to meditate.

Mr. Casares was the first owner of the ranch and his house has become a museum. It is one of its kind! It preserves very different things, like this elegant bathroom the family used, old documents, gaucho cloths and a lot of good information about the biosphere reserve.

La estancia perteneció a Carlos Casares, director del Banco Provincia y su casa es hoy un museo muy pintoresco, dado que conserva muestras muy diversas, como este baño antiguo, títulos antiguos, ropaje gauchesco y mucha y buena información sobre la reserva de biósfera.

Lo más interesante, sin embargo, puede resultar el olvidarse de todo y perderse en el verde, mientras nos intoxicamos de aire puro y observamos las aves (y si tenemos suerte y nos mantenemos en silencio quizás algún mamífero también) luego de haber disfrutado de una comida criolla en el restaurante campestre más auténtico que he visto en años. Basta con mirar las sillas para entender de qué estoy hablando.

The best option however is probably just to forget everything and lay in the green, intoxicated with fresh air and looking at the birds (or if we're lucky and keep still at some of the mamals that inhabit the area), after enjoying an authentical meal in the lovely restaurant from the ranch. The chairs are adorable!

A un pasito de Buenos Aires ...

se encuentra Punta Rasa, una reserva natural única, dado que allí se combinan mar y río, médanos y pastizales, lagunas y cangrejales. La cantidad de aves que se congregan allí hacen de Punta Rasa el lugar ideal para la observación y la fotografía, tal como lo testimonian las fotos que gentilmente me cediera una buena amiga de la EAN, Cora, que visitó el lugar en mayo y se encontró con estas magníficas espátulas rosadas. ¡Todo un lujo! Just a few kilometers away from Buenos Aires you can find Punta Rasa, a unique natural reserve that combines sea and river, dunes and grassland. Punta Rasa is the perfect place for eager birdwatchers and fotographers because of the ammount of birds that usually stop there for resting and feeding. The pictures sent to me by Cora, a good friend from the EAN (Argentinian School of Naturalists), are proof of the beauty of the place. She visited Punta Rasa last may and found a big group of roseate spoonbills "platalea ajaja". What a pleasure! Thank you Cora for sharing...

Visitando el Tigre - A visit to the delta

Nada mejor que una isla, cerca de la capital, para descansar unos días, rodeado de verde y arrullado por los pájaros.

A quienes se interesan por el turismo ecológico y desean saber más sobre la cultura del delta les recomendamos una visita a "La Boya", una propuesta joven y completa. El paseo incluye traslados desde y al hotel, una recorrida de 3 horas a través de las islas hasta llegar al Paraná de las Palmas y una demostración de las virtudes de la parrilla, que harán los deleites de todos, aún los vegetarianos y demostrará que no sólo sirve para hacer un buen asado.

La Boya es también un emprendimiento productivo: se practica la apicultura (producción de miel, polen y reinas), se planta mimbre y se cultivan hortalizas y plantas aromáticas.

Realmente lo pasé de maravilla. El día fue perfecto, el asado estuvo muy bueno - delicioso el morrón a la parrilla - la tarde se me fue mientras observaba los destellos de los colibríes que revoloteaban a unos pasos de la hamaca paraguaya. ¡Un lujo!

If you want to rest from the city for a couple of days, surrounded by the green and hearing nothing but the birds, an island in the delta is the best place to go.

I strongly recommend a visit to "La Boya" (the buoy) for those who are not only interested in ecological tourism but also want to know more about the culture of the delta. The full trip includes transportation from and to the hotel, a 3 hour's tour through the isles up to the "Paraná de las Palmas" (an arm of the Paraná river) and a demostration of the uses of the "parrilla", which is extraordinary for grilling meat but can also offer a lot of unexpected variations.

"La Boya" is not a tourist' resort but a productive station in the delta: you can witness bee-production (honey, queens, etc.), rattan plants and a nice vegetable garden.

I had a wonderful time. The day was just perfect, the "asado" was really good - the grilled paprika was delicious - the afternoon went by watching the sparkling of hummingbirds flying just a few steps away from the hammock. Amazing!
